For freelance translators

As a freelance translator, you can sign up as FairLoc Ambassador. This means you pay a monthly fee to support FairLoc in our mission to protect and preserve the role of human creativity in the localisation industry. If you want, you can choose a subscription tier that allows you to issue the FairLoc stamp of assurance to your direct clients. Or, if you work mostly with agencies, you can simply choose to become a supporter. That way you can skip most of the paperwork, and you will be able to quickly upgrade if ever you do want to start issuing stamps in the future.

When registering, you will sign the FairLoc Agreement, which is a legal contract between you and FairLoc that regulates our relationship and allows us to maintain the integrity of the certification scheme. In short, it says that:

❤ If issuing FairLoc stamps, you agree only to do so in accordance with the rules, meaning that you can only issue stamps to clients who order human translations for their prominent, customer-facing content (Read more about this here).
❤ You can still sell automated translation services to FairLoc Companies for certain text types, such as internal communications, social-media posts, low-visibility texts and high-volume texts that would not be suitable for full human translation. You can use our guidelines as a reference to determine when these exceptions apply and, in the case of a dispute, FairLoc can intervene.
❤ And of course, you are completely free to sell automated translation services to your clients who are not FairLoc Companies.
❤ You can still make use of machine-translation and artificial-intelligence tools for research and reference purposes when translating, just so long as you don’t start with a pre-translated text. The translation you produce must be human-made from scratch!
❤ If issuing stamps, you also agree to monitor compliance and report any breaches to FairLoc.

Supporters do not issue stamps, and therefore do not need to sign any contracts!

You can upgrade or downgrade your choice of tier at any time, meaning you can always adjust the amount you pay depending on how many FairLoc stamps you need to issue. Note that each individual client only needs one stamp. Select the Supporter tier if you simply want to help FairLoc fight for your place and your rights in the industry, without needing to issue stamps. Supporters can upgrade at any time if they want to start issung stamps.
